Since the launch of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of personalities, and a exciting storyline featuring divine entities, demons, and sinister influences growing in strength within the urban setting.
Note: Key plot points for Episode 3 of the new season are included.
The Soldiers Table Revealed
Episode 3 concluded with a huge suspense moment and revealed the initial group of adventurers who will split off from the main group to undertake their own adventure, separate from the remaining groups.
This warrior group features the determined fighter (played by Travis), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
Given an extensive roster, it was evident from the beginning that having everyone at the same party would be impossible.
That’s why, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Prelude, weaving together the personal journeys before splitting into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Strategists, and Explorers.
What Defines the Soldiers Table
Per the DM, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who prefer a traditionally charged fight-heavy narrative style where diplomatic options are scarce.
Initially, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might appear unsuited, but the events of episode 3 make it clear why these specific adventurers are best suited for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the team knows exactly where to head next after a violent first encounter with The Crow Keepers.
An old friend of the deceased character—whose death kicked off the campaign’s events—exploited The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, breaking into the secret base, attacking the character, and stealing all the magical artifacts to sell off.
Casimir then settled his liabilities and escaped to a secure base in the remote area, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.
Character Drivers
Secondly, each member has a personal reason to leave the city the urban setting:
- The agile hero, as the companion and best friend, wants retribution.
- The adventurer knows Timmony and warns that it is a hostile location.
- The warrior and The healer, having resisted his house’s orders to eliminate the fighter and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
- Yet, their position as key figures in House Halovar could assist the group access locations they normally couldn’t.
- Furthermore, Teor vowed a life debt to The cleric for his rescue and will now accompany him everywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Lastly, all of them are sought by the rulers that rule the city for a range of causes, making staying in the city dangerous:
- The agile adventurer and The hero are notorious outlaws.
- The warrior and Wicander turned against the powerful family and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
- Teor is targeted for elimination by the family.
This leaves them few options but to journey toward the remote area in pursuit of the traitor.
Future Episodes
According to the recent installment’s follow-up content, we find out that the combat party won’t be around the following episode, leaving the other eight participants to form the Seekers and Strategists parties.
Fans can expect learning which characters will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, released on the upcoming Thursday.
